Independence Day Greetings Hokie Alumni!

Hope everyone has a great weekend/ holiday!
  • Our next alumni meeting will be Monday,  July 13th at the Embassy Suites at Hwy 68 and I-40 near the airport.  The social half hour will begin at 6:00 PM and the meeting will begin at 6:30.  Admission is free!
  • We had a nice alumni event last Sunday afternoon at Divine Llama Vineyards www.divinellamavineyards.com . We had around 26 people who participated in the event which included wine tasting, tours of the farm and some serious social time! I think I counted 5 architects or architectural grads at the event. That has to be a record of some sort for our group.  Thanks to all of those folks who attended and made it a special afternoon.
  • The annual NC Triad Alumni Picnic is set for August 14th at 5:30 PM at Triad Park.  We will welcome our new Hokie Freshmen from the Triad area and give them a great sendoff. Send your reservation form in today!
  • Check out our new website at www.nctriadhokies.com
  • The construction of a new playground area for the Next Step Ministries in Kernersville was greatly appreciated by that organization.  Thanks to all who participated and thanks to Bryan Hertweck for organizing this outreach volunteer project.
  • Our NC Triad Chapter has awarded two $2500 scholarships this year to two very deserving students from the Triad who will be attending Virginia Tech this fall. They are Gregory J. Andia and Marion Anderson CarrollCongratulations to these two outstanding individuals on their accomplishments. Thanks to Jill Heyman for coordinating this important mission of our chapter.
  • We are continuing our fundraiser for our scholarship fund, which is called the Scholar Dollar Club.  For a $25 contribution, your name will be placed on our website as a Scholar Dollar Club contributor.  In order to claim the tax benefit of a donation, your check should be made payable to VT Foundation and your check memo should designate the NC Triad Scholarship Fund.  You may also make checks payable to the VTAA-NC Triad Chapter if you are not concerned with the tax benefits of a donation.  You may send those to Linda Allen, 6 Kempton Drive, Greensboro, NC  27406.  You will receive a VT lapel pin to display at local functions as a Scholar Dollar Club member.

Good Afternoon Hokies!

We apologize for the update in delay in the email notices.  There are still a few kinks and procedural changes we are working through, but we intend on getting back to our regularly scheduled updates.

Thanks to all who volunteered to help with the swingset build for NextStep Ministries on April 18th.  A special thanks to Bryan Hertweck for coordinating this rewarding event.

In an effort to give something back to the Triad community that was so gracious to the Virginia Tech family in the time following the shootings of April 16, 2007, we have offered our help to Next Step Ministries.  Next Step Ministries is a Kernersville non-profit organization that runs a safe house for abused women and their children.  They need help to build a swing set for those children and we have offered to build it on April 18th.  Materials have already been procured, we just need a bunch of helping hands to get it put together.  We will likely start at 1pm and spend the afternoon completing the project.

If you would like to help Next Step but don't feel you're up to the demands of swing set building, please volunteer anyway...there are plenty of other odd jobs that could be done in and around the house.
