Good Afternoon Hokies!

We apologize for the update in delay in the email notices.  There are still a few kinks and procedural changes we are working through, but we intend on getting back to our regularly scheduled updates.

Thanks to all who volunteered to help with the swingset build for NextStep Ministries on April 18th.  A special thanks to Bryan Hertweck for coordinating this rewarding event.

  • If you plan on walking in the Komen Race for the Cure this weekend and want to participate with other Hokies, meet in the Rotary (roundabout) south of the starting line 30 minutes prior to the start.
  • The Hokie Bowling Night Out will be held Monday, May 18th at Triad Lanes in Greensboro.  Contact Mark Whitehouse at 852-8822 if you need more information.
  • Be sure to check out the new website design at www.nctriadhokies.com.  You will need to establish an account to participate in the forum discussions.
  • We have changed the site to be a more dynamically drive, community-centered site.  Ironically, The VT Alumni Association has recently gone online with the Hokie Nation Network site, which is a social-networking type of application similar to Facebook and Myspace.  Be sure to check out that site at www.alumni.vt.edu/hnn (you will need your VTpid and password, which you can create at www.alumni.vt.edu.
  • We are setting up a comittee to review applications for our scholarships for incoming freshman to VT.  If you are interested in spending a few worthwhile hours assisting in this process, please email Tom Hughes ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ).  You will find this to be a very rewarding experience.
  • We are announcing a new fundraiser for our scholarship fund, which will be called the Scholar Dollar Club.  For a $25 contribution, your name will be placed on our website as a Scholar Dollar Club  contributor.  In order to claim the tax benefit of a donation, you check should be made payable to VT Foundation and your check memo should designate the NC Triad Scholarship Fund.  You may also make checks payable to the VTAA-NC Triad Chapter if you are not concerned with the tax benefits of a donation.  You may send those to Linda Allen, 6 Kempton Dr, Greensboro, NC 27406.  You will receive a VT lapel pin to display at local functions as a Scholar Dollar Club member.
  • The Orange & Maroon Tour will be held May 5th at the Double Tree Inn.  The cost is $15, and Happy Hour starts at 5pm, with dinner at 6:30pm.  Contact Bruce Coleman for additional info at 707-9034 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
