Today is Hokie Pride Day! Wear your colors proudly and display your VT magnets and flags.
Hope everyone had a fantastic summer. We had an outstanding picnic on August 13th and welcomed a number of new hokie alumni and welcomed a number of new Tech students from the Triad headed to Tech this fall. Everyone who attended had a great time at this event. Thanks to Tricia and Jim Goff, Bob and Linda Allen, Mark and Molly Whitehouse for helping with planning, cooking, money collecting and setup. For those others who assisted, thank you as well. I am sure that I have left out a few names. Our next alumni meeting is Monday, Sept. 14th. See details below.
- Our next alumni meeting will be Monday, September 14 th at the Embassy Suites at Hwy 68 and I-40 near the airport. The social half hour will begin at 6:00 PM and the meeting will begin at 6:30. Admission is free!
- We will have local game watching events for the Ga Tech and the Maryland football games. Stay tuned for details
- Check out our new Facebook page for the NC Triad Hokies. You can sign up to be a part of this group ! Jill Heyman is coordinating that for us.
- Join the new Hokie Nation Network. Most of you should have already received an email about this exciting (and also free) new social and professional network for hokies. Just go to www.alumni.vt.edu/hnn to sign up.
- Check out our new website at www.nctriadhokies.com
- If you are interested in serving as an officer on the local alumni board, feel free to contact me (Tom Hughes) for more information. There is not a major time commitment involved, and we would welcome some new members on the board.
- Our NC Triad Chapter has awarded two $2500 scholarships this year to two very deserving students from the Triad who will be attending Virginia Tech this fall. They are Gregory J. Andia and Marion Anderson Carroll. Congratulations to these two outstanding individuals on their accomplishments. Thanks to Jill Heyman for coordinating this important mission of our chapter.
- We are continuing our fundraiser for our scholarship fund, which is called the Scholar Dollar Club. For a $25 contribution, your name will be placed on our website as a Scholar Dollar Club contributor. In order to claim the tax benefit of a donation, your check should be made payable to VT Foundation and your check memo should designate the NC Triad Scholarship Fund. You may also make checks payable to the VTAA-NC Triad Chapter if you are not concerned with the tax benefits of a donation. You may send those to Linda Allen, 6 Kempton Drive, Greensboro, NC 27406. You will receive a VT lapel pin to display at local functions as a Scholar Dollar Club member.
