Greetings Hokie Alumni !

Our annual social dinner was held on Friday evening, February 12th. Our guest speaker was Dr. Kay Dunkley from the Reynolds Homestead in Virginia. She and her assistant, Lisa Martin, presented an excellent program about the history of the R.J. Reynolds birthplace and some of the programs going on at this continuing education facility owned by VT. We also had a winetasting hosted by Divine Llama Vineyards. The alumni group had a lot of fun with this outing with around 40 people attending.  Thanks to all of you that were able to attend.

  • Our next alumni meeting is scheduled for this Monday March 8th at the Embassy Suites at the airport exit at I-40. The social half hour will begin at 6:00 and the meeting will begin at 6:30. There is no cost to attend and no cost to be a member of  the VT Alumni Association. Please wear your VT colors this month to the meeting!
  • If you are interested in serving on our scholarship committee to review applications and interview  our prospective students please let me know. This is a minimal two evening investment of time but well worth the investment.
  • Our annual picnic is scheduled for Thursday August 8th at Triad Park in Kernersville. Save the date. This is a family oriented outing and we hope you will be able to attend.
  • The ACC/Goodwill Challenge will be held again this year at the Fox and Hound in Winston-Salem on March 13th from 1-4PM. Bring donations to Goodwill and enjoy appetizers while watching the ACC Tournament with other ACC fans. There will be a private room, free appetizers, free pool, raffle and door prizes and drink specials.
  • The Komen Race for the Cure will be held in Winston-Salem on Saturday May 1 in Old Salem. We plan to participate as a chapter, so please save the date. Mark Whitehouse will be our game day coordinator. If you have questions, please let Jill Heyman know at 757-619-9806 or email her at [email protected]
  • The VaTech Scottish Tartan was officially presented to the University at The Legacy Society dinner recently. We now have a custom tailor available.   Please have anyone interested contact Skeets Cahoon at e-mail address: [email protected]   His mailing address is 4204 Starmount Dr. Greensboro, NC 27410. Skeets has been working on this project for many years. • Our NC Triad Chapter has awarded two $2500 scholarships this year to two very deserving students from the Triad who will be attending Virginia Tech this fall. They are Gregory J. Andia and Marion Anderson Carroll. Congratulations to these two outstanding individuals on their accomplishments. Thanks to Jill Heyman for coordinating this important mission of our chapter.
  • We are continuing our fundraiser for our scholarship fund, which is called the Scholar Dollar Club .  For a $25 contribution, your name will be placed on our website as a Scholar Dollar Club contributor.  In order to claim the tax benefit of a donation, your check should be made payable to VT Foundation and your check memo should designate the NC Triad Scholarship Fund.  You may also make checks payable to the VTAA-NC Triad Chapter if you are not concerned with the tax benefits of a donation.  You may send those to Linda Allen, 6 Kempton Drive, Greensboro, NC  27406.  You will receive a VT lapel pin to display at local functions as a Scholar Dollar Club member.
