Jill sent this out to everyone regarding our adoption of a Triad area family in need. Please review the attachments regarding a list of needs for members of the family, as well as a flyer inviting you to a social to collect our contributions for the family and to celebrate the season with other Hokies. If you would like to make a donation but can't attend the social, please let me know. We will be glad to collect items in advance. The contributions are keyed to the last name of the individual doing the donation, just to clarify.

Hello Fellow Hokies!
MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!! We are throwing a festive social soiree so we can all get together and celebrate another great year for the NC Triad Virginia Tech Alumni Group. There are a lot details below, so please read thoroughly and feel free to contact us with any questions.
NC Triad Hokies 2009 Tacky Sweater Holiday Celebration

Why: Who needs a reason to hang with Hokies? However, each year we put together an event where we can give back to the local community. This year we have decided to adopt a family in need; so this gathering will be the opportunity to bring something that the family needs and we will deliver the items on December 16th (more details below) and there will be prizes for the tackiest sweaters.
NOTE: The Chapter will provide the main course, but we are asking everyone to bring a dish to share. Please use the guidelines below when considering your dish so we dont have too many duplicates.

Our Adopted Family
The United Way-African American Leadership Affinity Group is helping Community Service/Social organization partner with the United Way member organizations to support their patrons during the holiday season.
Organization: Family Life Council
Program: Positive Parenting
Family: Bailey Family (see attachment)
Background: Phyllis Bailey lost two daughters within 86 days of each other and is now caring for her 5 grandchildren. Phyllis and her husband sleep in the living room, she sleeps on the couch and he sleeps on the floor. When asked if the family had a "wish list," Phyllis told the social worker that she just wanted to find a bed for her husband and shoes for the kids. Last week one of her grandson's wore her shoes to school.
Together, I know the Hokie Nation here in the NC Triad can help this family.
If you have something special you would like to contribute to the family (i.e. a pull out couch), please contact Eric Eley directly at [email protected]. In order to make sure each person receives a gift, please follow the assignments below by last name.
